Our week with the germans in Bergen!

Our week with the Germans in Bergen

We were all looking forward to these 10 days after out arrival from Hamburg in April earlier this year. We were excited about meeting out German friends again and continuing our work with the green living project after about 4 month.

Monday 9th of September the Germans arrived in Bergen. We started with a big lunch for everyone at the Grand Hotel Terminus, where we talked and met the Germans we were to host for the next 10 days.
The next day we went on excursions with our groups. Our group started at the Grand Hotel Terminus where the chief of the hotel were, Kjetil Smørås was talking. Next we went to Amalie Skram, the Media City and the Bergen Times. In the evening we arranged a small party with the teachers, which was a nice gathering for everyone!

On Wednesday we continued on our excursions and went to Kokstad where we visited Statoil. We also went to Nesttunvannet Terrace and took the Bergen light rail to Kronstad where we looked at the area where the new Bergen University College is being constructed.

On Thursday we started off with a lesson where we listened to the German`s presentations about the political parties in Germany. After that the German class went on a trip to Ulriken where they were to sleep over in Turnerhytten till Friday. The Norwegian class had normal lessons the rest of the day.
The next day we had another normal day of school until 2 a clock when the German class arrived back at BHG after their trip.  On the evening some of us went to the movies and later we gathered for a social event. We had many fun and social events over the weekend.

Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th of September the Norwegians had normal classes while the German class went to museums. After school at Tuesday we all went to Peppes Pizza to eat. It is a great ending to a fun and interesting week.

06.04 Hafen City

Hafen city is a totally new district filled with new buildings and architecture, located in Downtown Hamburg. We went to Hafen City to explore and experience its green values, because it is a tourist attraction known to be environmentally friendly in its function.

Hafen city wants to create a place where you can both live and work. In theory, a place you never have to leave. Constructing the buildings in the right location, with the right mix of uses, and the right concept is therefore vital for a forward-looking project like Hafen. The buildings are top modern with outstanding facades, filled with: flats, offices, recreation offers, kindergartens, and other essential businesses. The facilities consist of long lasting materials, and are intended for every social class. The buildings are constructed to use few resources during their lifespan, and are energy efficient. This is what makes buildings sustainable, and makes a major contribution dealing with climate change. They have isolated walls and windshields, so that they don’t need much heating. In addition, they use non- fossil energy sources such as geothermal heat, and modern thermal supply systems relying substantially on renewable energy sources.

17.04 City North

Wednesday 17 of April we went on an expedition in Hamburg. The first place we visited was City North.

City North is an area with many environmentally friendly buildings. There are 300 different companies placed there and approximately 30 000 employed. Among the companies placed there are Tschibo, Hanse net, Deutche Post, Edeka, Signal Iduna, RWE Dea, Siemens, AG, Vattenfall Europe, Allianz Immobilien etc. The reason why so many companies are settled in City North is because it was not enough space in the city center. They started the building in 1957. At that time there where not many building demands but it was important for the companies that the buildings contributed to a green living. That is why they had kindergartens there, where the employers’ children could go. The buildings in City North are 45 000 less energy driving. For that reason City North has become a popular place for a company to settle. The streets in City North are named after international cities.

Our visit at BIR

On Tuesday we went to BIR with our class. BIR is responsible for all the trash that is produced in Bergen and eight other communities. It is a cooperation between the communities, and every community owns a part of BIR. At first we learnt the history of BIR and how they handle the trash they collect. Afterwards we got a tour in the building were we looked at the machines and the process the trash goes through. The energy that comes from burning the trash is used to heat up big buildings, like the hospital. How they treat trash has changed a lot the past 30 years and the methods they use today are eco and very kind to the environment, unlike it was not long ago.

Us girls in Green Angels found this very interresting! :-)

Here you can see the building. As you may notice, the smoke is very clear because of the cold temperature, it is not as dramatic as it looks!

Louise is going to investigate future perspectives for Bergen culture, experiences and tourism and how this task can provide and carry green values. Christine was given the task about how to make Bergen a central mediacity and how they are planning to keep one of the largest television channels in funcion, and enlarge it in Bergen. The task also includes how to get great artists to perform in the scenes in Bergen. Last, but not least, Amalie J is investigating energi industries such as oil, gas, and renewable energi sources and merge them with business enterprises. 18.10.2012

This week we received letters from the group in Hamburg. It was very fascinating to read about them. We are going to work with four boys, named Emre, Albert, Jamil and Julian. They seemed like nice guys, so we really look forward to work with them! They wrote a lot about Hamburg, and how they thought the future would be. They had some interesting facts, that we found motivating.
Christine, Amalie and Amalie focused on the localization of the businesses we are going to visit. We also got a lecture about politics, and worked with political questions afterwards. Louise wrote about the current, the past and the future politics in Bergen. She also wrote the log. At the end we discussed together how we can make Bergen a more green place to live.

Today we continued with the tasks we did on Wednesday. Amalie J is writing a rapport that shows how far we have come with our project. Louise is still writing about politics, and Christine and Amalie V have been working on the blog. We also contacted the businesses we are going to visit.

Our fruitful and productive day!

Hey you sweet green friends! Today we've been working on how to define answers to our many questions. The inventive solutions we merge into our task, has essentially enlarged our initial competence in how the organization trade function by now! It is remarkable how many factors that affect the potential outcomes. Today we have focused on transport prospects, tourism, Bergen past and future perspectives, conference venues, the power point presentation and blog updates. Next time we are preparing for interviews with NHH, Hotel Terminus and an enterprise in kokstad area. Just wait for the marvelous product we will put together.

What we do to preserve the environment?

1. Travel with collective transport instead of using the car, that is much more environmentally friendly.

2. Turn of the lights every single time we leave a room.

3. Turn of the water running while brushing our teeth

4. Collate the glass, plastic and the residual waste into reconciling

5. Two of us have heat pumps, and that pollutes much less than the normal heating standards.

Five daily things we do to preserve the environment!

Our issue: Localization of Trade

Localization of trade: How do the trade contribute to a green regional development? Where do we find operational places, companies and bureas? With the waterfront, or along the rail etc..? Which projects and measures do we find in Bergen and Hamburg?
This is our exceptional and dedcated task that we are given, and we are going to fullfil the terms surrounding our assignment, in addition to refine our work.

Fun facts about us!

Christine is the liveliest gir!l She is smart, and with an enormous shine that radiates joy. Her positive attitude rubs everyone, and she is really, really nice and heart warming! Christine lived in Fusa thru her childhood, a small native land deep in Norwegian nature, almost without houses and civalization. The harmoni surrounding the envionment in Fusa is fresh and free- living, compared to how the decreased nature in the cities must fight to grow and develop. Christine is interested in pilates, and she used to play fotball!

Amalie J`s adorable laughter you can hear from infinite miles away, and she laughs continously throughout the day. Her smile beams of happiness, and she has an amazingly sweet personality! Open for everyone. At her sweet 16 on august 24th she consisted the moped license, and two weeks later she managed to slip while driving in the rain. Smart girl. But, she always arise, as the hero she is, and doesn`t use her excuses! Amalie is also an incredibly talented football player, playing with the best team in Bergen.

Amalie V is extremely charming and sweet, inside out, constantly smiling! Her kindness fills our hearts, and the great feed-back she gives, can motivate anyone into their rightful outcomes. Amalie is kinda like a lovely rabbit, not munching on carrots, but all kinds of sport crisps! She needs the nutrition because she is an extraordinary football player, playing on the same team as Amalie J! She lives on the edge of Bergen, and by taking the collective tain transport to school every day, she pollutes much less then if driving.

Louise is a real citygirl because she is the only one in the group who lives in the city. It is not hard to see or notice, due to her nice bergen axcent and her nice clothes. She is extremely smart and good with adjectives. She looks healty, but she can`t live without her daily chocolate and coffee. She is also very funny and is constantly making fun of us farmergirls. Louise is a clever schoolgirl, but she`s always coming late for class! So if she`s not there in the beginning of the day, you know she`ll be there any time soon.
